Music Therapy Course Commences

During the course

From April 15 to 19, 2019, German music therapists Viola Grandke and Lawrence Reuters ran the first of four music therapy training modules for Uplift. The modules are part of a two-year course, which is designed for professionals who work with children (as well as adults) and want to use music therapy in their work.

Music therapy is still largely unknown in Kyrgyzstan. Valentina, an Uplift mother, [LINK to Uplift-Mother-Program] attended the course and described her initial impressions:

"It's important to connect with each individual child. I find out their needs and wants, and work to establish a relationship of trust. To do this successfully, you need to be on the child’s wavelength. I like the fact that in music therapy sessions, I can communicate with a child using sounds and music, rather than words. That’s very cool. I think disabled children in particular could be very interested in this kind of therapy. I would like to give them this option if they enjoy communicating through music. "

Successful completion of speech therapy course

On April 22 and 26, 2019, Uplift ran the fourth and final module of its speech therapy course. Along with the 13 course participants, we would like to thank the coaches Carolina Koenig and Ricardo Muller for putting together such an excellent course.
